There’s something about fall in the Lehigh Valley that makes us notice time passing.
Maybe it’s the way the leaves seem to change overnight. The first chilly morning. Pulling favorite sweaters from the back of the closet. Suddenly, summer is behind us and another season has arrived. And somehow, the little people we love have changed right along with it.
Last fall, maybe you were carrying your baby on your hip. This year, those little feet are running ahead of you.
Maybe there were chubby toddler cheeks and tiny hands wrapped around your finger. Now there are longer legs, bigger personalities, missing teeth, and stories that seem to go on forever.
It happens so quietly that sometimes we don’t realize just how much has changed until we look back at a photograph.
The Sweetest Kind of Time Capsule
That’s one of my favorite things about photographing Lehigh Valley families year after year.
The photographs aren't just about what everyone looked like. They're about who you were together in that little season of life.
The way your toddler tucked into your arms.
The belly laugh you knew was coming before it even started.
The way your little one reached for your hand without thinking.
The sibling silliness.
The snuggles.
The perfectly imperfect moments in between.
Those are the things that become precious with time.
Because one day, you'll look at those photographs and realize you don't just remember how small they were.
You remember how it felt to have them that small.
You Don't Have to Wait for the “Perfect” Year
As moms, it can be so easy to put off being in photographs.
Maybe you'd like to lose a few pounds first. Maybe your little one is in a particularly wild stage. Maybe someone is missing a tooth, refusing to wear the outfit you picked, or has suddenly decided that smiling for a camera is absolutely out of the question.
But here's the thing:
This is the season worth remembering, too.
Your children aren't going to look back someday and wish you'd waited until everything was perfect.
They're going to see you.
Their mom.
The person whose arms felt like home.
And they're going to see what their family looked like when they were little.
That's worth getting in the frame for.
A Little Bit of Autumn Magic
Fall sessions in the Lehigh Valley have always had a special kind of magic to them.
The golden light. The rich colors. Cozy layers. Little hands tucked into yours. Kids running through the grass. Everyone snuggling a little closer when there's a chill in the air.
It doesn't have to be stiff or perfectly posed.
In fact, some of my favorite photographs happen in the moments when everyone forgets about the camera for a second.
A laugh.
A squeeze.
A child leaning into Mom.
A little hand reaching for Dad.
Those are the photographs I want you to have.
Because Next Autumn Will Look Different
Next fall, they'll be another inch taller.
There may be another missing tooth. Another shoe size. A different favorite stuffed animal. A little less baby in their face.
And while there is so much sweetness waiting for you in the seasons ahead, you'll never get this particular version of your family back again.
So take the picture.
Get in it with them.
Hold them close.
Let them be silly.
And give yourself something that will take you right back to this season someday.
