Every August, our family goes down to Ocean City, Maryland and spends a few days to celebrate our wedding anniversary; each year, I photograph my darling little girl Emelia on the beach. We go just north of OC to Fenwick Island where it’s a little quieter and there are no big buildings in the background. One of my favorite things about photographing on the beach is that the background is so light, soft and clean. It truly keeps your eye on the subject and my gorgeous girl just POPS! It’s also just so serene and relaxing - sometimes with little wild ones, family portraits can be stressful - but there’s no stress in beach portraits - just having fun!
Emelia, just shy of 3, had the time of her life on the beach this year - you’ll notice that there is sand in her hair from throwing it all around. She enjoyed running through the water, picking up seashells and making as much of a ‘mess’ as possible. The joy in her face is simply priceless to me!
Still trying to hang on to the last of her baby-ness, I dressed her in a beautiful white and soft blue romper (she still fits in 24 months!) with a soft blue bow, which looked so beautiful against the beach and her stunning skin. When having your family portraits on the beach, stick to whites, soft blues and other pastel colors to compliment the sea.
As a fellow mama, I know the feeling of bliss you get when you see beautiful photos of your babies - no matter how many photos I take of Emelia, I still get that rush to my heart where I feel like it could just explode by looking at her. How blessed we truly are!
